Drawing from the iconic longitudinal Berkeley Guidance Study\, Living on the Edge examines the rapid social changes and uncertainty that defined 20th-century America n life\, and how the hopes\, struggles\, and daily lives of the 1900s rela te to the experiences of our current generation. The mission of the Pepper Institute on Aging and Pub lic Policy is to initiate research\, educate students\, and provide outrea ch activities that address the opportunities and challenges of an aging po pulation. Faculty and students at the Pepper Institute examine a wide arra y of issues related to the social aspects of aging and their implications for public policy\, including pathways to later life\, aging and health di sparities\, communities and transportation\, and aging and health policy.  \n \n \n \n \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n  \n\n The Consortium on Analytics for Data-Driven De cision-Making (CAnD3) is a partnership comprised of pan-Canadian\, interna tional\, multidisciplinary\, and cross-sectoral partners and team members.  CAnD3 adopts an integrated\, interdisciplinary approach to co-construct\, co-fund\, and co-implement an innovative training program to tackle popul ation aging using powerful analytics. Our Fellows and partners are trained in evidence-informed decision-making using a leading-edge suite of data s cience\, policy\, and knowledge mobilization material. \n \n \n \n\n\nFeature d Speakers\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Richard (Rick) A. Settersten\, Jr.\, PhD\, is University Distinguished Professor of Human Development and Vice Provost f or Faculty Affairs at Oregon State University. Dr. Settersten is a special ist in life-course studies\, with expertise spanning adolescence\, adultho od\, and aging. He has a strong record of experience conducting research a nd collaborating across disciplines and life periods. His research has oft en focused on the first and last few decades of adulthood\, always with an eye toward understanding the whole of human life. \n \n \n \n \n  \n\n \n \n \n   \n\n Glen H. Elder\, Jr.\, PhD Odum Distinguished Research Professor of Soc iology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill\, is a prominent figure in the development of life course theory\, methods\, and research. He studies individuals and groups of people (i.e. birth cohort\, etc.) wi th in-depth interviews and other measurements across different times in th eir life span with the objective of investigating how changing environment s have influenced them. Elder is currently engaged in a longitudinal study of the 1900 generation\, with emphasis on the 1920s\, the Great Depressio n and World War II.\n \n \n \n\n\nLunch&Learn\n\nThis is a special\, extra Ma rch Lunch&Learn session of the 2021-22 Training Year. The Lunch&Learn seri es is designed to introduce our Fellows\, team members\, and partners to e merging research in topics of population dynamics and population aging.
