Nimble\, accurate\, efficient \, and dexterous movements are outcomes of neuromuscular adaptations elici ted by early and long-term musical training. However\, repetition of preci se motor actions for years sometimes triggers movement disorders such as t ask-specific focal dystonia and tremor. Although neuroimaging studies adva nced the understanding of neuroplastic mechanisms subserving acquisition a nd loss of virtuosity in musicians\, what remains elusive is computational mechanism responsible for optimizing the sensorimotor system for virtuosi c musical performance and for malfunctioning it through developing movemen t disorders. The present talk focuses on the following issues\; movement r eorganization at the musculoskeletal system possessing a large number of d egrees of freedom through musical training\, impacts of musical training o n auditory feedback control during musical performance\, neuromuscular det erminants of the inter-individual differences in motor skills among highly -skilled musicians\, and novel neuro-rehabilitation normalizing maladaptiv e neuronal changes elicited by musician’s dystonia.\n DTSTART:20151015T173000Z DTEND:20151015T190000Z LOCATION:Room 501\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, Goodman Cancer Centre\, 1160 Pine Avenue West SUMMARY:Extremes of sensorimotor control of musical performance: virtuosity and dystonia URL:/channels-contribute/channels/event/extremes-senso rimotor-control-musical-performance-virtuosity-and-dystonia-255597 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
