 the CIHR Human Immunology\, we are proud to announce the celebration of an
  International Symposium on Human Immunity and the Microbiome in Health an
 d Disease coming up in September 27-29\, 2015.  For further information\, 
 click here.\nThe understanding of the human immune system and its response
 s to perturbations remains a considerable challenge to immunologists\, in 
 large part due to the diverse genetic makeup and environmental influence o
 f individuals. Intersecting with these two factors is the enormous and div
 erse communities of microbes that colonize various parts of the body. Thes
 e microbes\, described as our microbiota\, coevolve with us and coexist wi
 th our immune system\, eliciting a mutualistic response. In advancing our 
 immunological insights into diseases\, it has become clear that we also ne
 ed to identify the mechanisms that allow specific members of the microbiot
 a to modulate the host’s immune health. From these studies\, new connectio
 ns between the microbiota and the immune system are starting to emerge. Di
 sease states are often associated with changes in the composition and beha
 vior of the microbiota\, and this line of investigation will unveil therap
 eutic potential to treat infections\, inflammatory diseases\, and cancer.
 \nWe are excited to bring together leading scientists to examine the inter
 action between the microbiota and the human immune system and its response
 s. We hope to spur progress in this area of research\, which will lead to 
 novel strategies to promote human health and to develop more effective way
 s to treat diseases.\n
