But the search for\ninformation is mo re complex than that and remains unsupported by\nexisting technologies tha t focus primarily on tuning search\nalgorithms.\n\nThis talk will examine search as a process within the larger work\ntask and work environment to r econsider the design of that search\ninterface\, and the 'interface' of se arch within the larger work\ntask.\n \n--\nThe third speaker in SIS' Fall 2009 Speaker Series is Elaine\nToms\, Canada Research Chair in Management Informatics\, Professor\nand Director\, iLab\, Faculty of Management\, Dal housie University.\nShe is a member of TAPoR\, the Text Analysis Portal fo r Research\,\nand NECTAR\, the Network for Effective Collaboration Through \nAdvanced Research. Her work has been funded by NSERC\, SSHRC\, OCLC\,\nH eritage Canada\, CFI and the CRC program. Prof. Toms’ research\nspans the boundary at the computer interface\, understanding how\npeople use content -rich information systems effectively and\nefficiently\, and designing too ls to enable that use. Her current\nresearch includes understanding the ef fect of workplace\ninterruptions on knowledge work\; re-inventing a webcas ting\ninterface\; understanding collaborative information access and use\; \nenabling file sharing in knowledge work\; and\, measuring reputation\,\n experience\, engagement and relevance\, in addition to her focus on\ntools to access information.\n \nThe purpose of the SIS' Speaker Series is to g ive Ph.D. and\nmasters students in the School of Information Studies a\nbe hind-the-scenes glimpse at research and the research process.\nThere are f our speakers in the Fall term and another four speakers\nin the Winter 201 0 term. Students and faculty from the Faculty of\nEducation as well as the wider ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ community are invited to\nattend.\n DTSTART:20091030T170000Z DTEND:20091030T170000Z LOCATION:Education Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 1Y2\, 3700 rue McTav ish SUMMARY:Elaine Toms: Integrating Information Search into the Workflow Proce ss URL:/channels/event/elaine-toms-integrating-informatio n-search-workflow-process-109032 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
