This quantitative gre en chemistry evaluator is based on the 12 principles of green chemistry fo r customers to evaluate their relative greenness of their processes which provide a framework for learning about green chemistry and designing or im proving materials\, products\, processes\, and systems. DOZN™2.0 scores pr oducts based on metrics for each principle and aggregates the principle sc ores to derive a final aggregate score. Through the system it is possible to calculate a green score for each substance based on manufacturing input s\, GHS\, and SDS data. DOZN™2.0 is flexible enough to encompass a diverse portfolio of products and it has been verified and validated by a third p arty to ensure best practices are applied. Based on customer feedback\, an upgraded version of the tool\, DOZN™3.0\, launched in December 2024. Thro ugh DOZN™3.0\, customers now have access to calculate the green scores of their processes and products. DOZN™3.0 keeps data privacy top of mind - al lowing customers to score their processes/products in a safe and secure ma nner. Come learn how to make your science greener using this free\, web-ba sed tool provides users with more data so that they are properly equipped to improve their sustainability!\n\n \n\n \n\nBio:\n\nEttigounder (Samy) P onnusamy joined Sigma-Aldrich as a chemist in 1988 after his postdoctoral studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago and\, in 2007\, he helped found the company’s green chemistry team. In 2015\, following the acquisi tion of Sigma-Aldrich by the Life Science business of Merck KGaA\, Darmsta dt\, Germany\, which operates as MilliporeSigma in the U.S. and Canada\, S amy continued his role of managing and expanding new green business opport unities\, as well as research and development for greener alternatives.\n \n \n\nIn his role as Director & Fellow - green chemistry\, Samy developed the unique DOZN™ system—a third party-validated/published green chemistry evaluator based on the 12 Principles of Green Chemistry. Today\, this too l plays an integral role in quantifying greener products for Merck and its customers both in industry and academia - having received a Top Project o f the Year award by Environment + Energy Leader in 2020. Also\, Samy is on e of the recipients of Merck Technology Award 2021 and Sustainability Awar d 2022 from Chiesi\, Italian Pharma Company for DOZN™.\n\n \n\nSamy has mo re than 40+ years of experience managing new product developments—from ben ch scale through product launch—with many products showing sustained growt h over time. He has extensive experience in applying green chemistry conce pts across all disciplines of chemistry and polymer/organic chemistry\, an d process technology skills in the development of innovative biopolymers f or drug-delivery applications.\n\n \n\nSamy is the holder or co-holder of seven U.S. patents\, and is the recipient of more than a dozen honors\, in cluding the Outstanding Scientist award from the Academy of Science in St. Louis (2011) and Fellow of the Academy of Science in St. Louis\; the firs t-ever CEO award for Outstanding Achievements (2012)\; Sigma-Aldrich’s Glo bal Citizenship awards (2008\, 2009 and 2010)\; and Sigma-Aldrich’s Safety awards for eliminating the hazards in manufacturing polyamino acid polyme rs (2002 and 2008). Samy also received Sustainability Star recognition fro m ACS/GCI in May 2024. Samy served as co-chair for the American Chemical S ociety’s (ACS) Green Chemistry Institute (GCI) Chemical Manufacturer’s Rou ndtable and is a member of the Polymer Chemistry and Polymeric Materials S cience Division. He has also been selected/served as a judge for the U.S. Green Chemistry Challenge Award Program (2018\, 2019\, 2023 & 2024) by ACS /EPA\, Serves as ACS GC&E Advisory Committee Member (2023 -2025). Samy ser ved as a Leadership Committee Member for the Green Chemistry Teaching and Learning Community (GCTLC) 2020 - 2023\; currently serving as a GCTLC Advi sory Committee Member 2024 – 2026 (by ACS GCI/Beyond Benign).\n\n \n\nAlso \, Samy leads the new Greener Chemistry Consultancy Business Developments at MilliporeSigma. He is instrumental in expanding DOZN application to bot h virtual and in-lab curriculum to various academic institutions globally in collaboration. Also\, Samy helped to launch Beyond Benign’s Organic and In-organic Labs with DOZN applications.\n\n \n\nSamy earned his Ph.D. fro m the University of Madras. His thesis was titled “Polymer Chemistry: Synt heses and Studies of Certain Copolyesters of Terephthalic Acid and Diols\, ” and he is the co-author of 50+ related scientific articles.\n\n \n\nTo m eet with Samy\, Sign-up here! \n DTSTART:20250212T150000Z DTEND:20250212T170000Z LOCATION:Frank Dawson Adams Building Room 5 SUMMARY:ϲ Seminar- DOZN™3.0 - Ettigounder (Samy) Ponnusamy: A Quantit ative Green Chemistry Evaluator for Sustainable Future URL:/chemistry/channels/event/mcgill-seminar-dozntm30- ettigounder-samy-ponnusamy-quantitative-green-chemistry-evaluator-363006 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
