It is hoped that this will generate debate\, discussion and deliberation on the future direction s of P/AR in an era of neoliberal globalization characterized by social an d political upheaval\, and economic austerity.\n\n\nWhile neoliberalism ca n be viewed as a primarily economic philosophy in which free markets are t he centre-piece\, implicit within it is also a system of governmentality w hose locus is the individual consumer\, rather than the citizen\, as was t he case in post-war social democracy. The transition from the politics of citizen rights to one where everyday life is organized through consumers a nd market relations has fundamentally decontextualized the discourse of pa rticipatory democracy. Unsurprisingly\, the prevalent discourses of partic ipation that define contemporary approaches to P/AR and participatory rese arch are also being increasingly infiltrated and appropriated by neolibera l discourses and politics that 聽has resulted in the commodification of inc reasing areas of everyday life that were formerly part of the public domai n (education\, healthcare\, social services\, environmental protection).\n \nThe 2019 conference will\, therefore\, continue discussion and debate in itiated at the 2018 conference on Knowledge Mobilization for Equitable and Peaceful Social Progress by exploring questions connected to the democrat ization of knowledge production. It will also seek to provoke discussion a nd debate on doing P/AR in an era where research is progressively being ha rnessed by governments and public institutions to imperatives defined by n eoliberal and neoconservative policies and discourses. In particular\, it will aim to explore forms of P/AR that contest\, challenge and/or subvert this ideological drift apparent in recent decades.\n\nProposed conference themes for papers\, workshops\, panels and other formats for the 2019 conf erence will include the following:聽\n\n\n Action Research under Late Neolib eralism\n Activist Scholarship in the Neoliberal University\n Ethics\, Respo nsibility and Action聽\n Activism in an Era of Big Data\n Youth Politics and Action Research聽\n Action Research and Practitioner Knowledges聽\n Critical P erspectives on Knowledge Mobilization聽\n Research as an Activist Tool\n Clas s Analysis and Action聽\n Labour Movements\, Action Research and Activism聽\n Social Movements\, Activism and Action Research聽\n LGBTQ\, Action Research and Activism聽\n Indigenous Knowledges\, Research and Action聽\n Healthy Commu nities and Action Research聽\n Critical Race/Feminist Perspectives on Resear ch and Action聽\n Colonization\, Contestation and Transformation\n Political Histories of P/AR under Global Capitalism聽\n Climate Change and Action Rese arch聽\n Revisiting Critical and Eco Pedagogy聽\n Action Research and Educatio n聽\n Pedagogies for Action and Transformation聽\n Action Research and the Wor k of NGOs\n Action Research in Communities\n Critical Perspectives on Action Research\n\n\nProposal submission will begin in October 2018.
