Following the first wave of the pandemic\, several cities acros s North America launched active transportation efforts to support walking and cycling when physical distancing measures were still in place. This in cluded expanding bicycling networks\, shared public spaces\, and pedestria n-only streets. In parallel\, there was a shift from public transit to pri vate cars\, potentially impacting road users differently. Vulnerable Road users may now face greater safety risks. As active transportation options\ , cycling and walking have numerous benefits for individuals and the envir onment\, but safety is a major public health concern. This presentation ex amines pedestrian and bicyclist injuries before and during the pandemic (2 012 – 2022) in several Canadian cities using police-reported killed or sev erely injured (KSI)\, emergency department (ED) visits and hospitalization data.\n\nLearning Objectives\n\nBy the end of this session\, attendees wi ll:\n\n\n Understand the advantage of conducting an Interrupted Time Series using the simulation approach\;\n Understand the impact of the COVID-19 pa ndemic on on vulnerable road users using several data sources and utilizin g data beyond the first year of the pandemic\;\n Discuss how the lack of hi gh-quality data with temporal granularity for motor vehicles\, pedestrian and bicycle\, volume\, motor vehicle speed limit current studies.\n\n\nSpe aker Bio\n\nBrice Batomen is an epidemiologist\, Assistant Professor in Ep idemiology at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health\, University of Toron to. His work focuses on access to trauma care and injury prevention in Can ada. His current research goals aim to identify the characteristics of the road network that promote active transportation and safety using innovati ve data collection and analytic methods. He earned his PhD in epidemiology at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ University\, after completing his Master of Science in epidemio logy at Laval University\, and his undergraduate studies in Biomedical Sci ences at Dschang University\, Cameroon.\n\n \n DTSTART:20231030T200000Z DTEND:20231030T210000Z SUMMARY:Trends in Vulnerable Road Users Injuries in Major Canadian Cities URL:/epi-biostat-occh/channels/event/trends-vulnerable -road-users-injuries-major-canadian-cities-351188 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
