While many Indonesians migrate from agr arian communities for work in cities and foreign countries\, how such plan tations interact with labor migration from surrounding communities remains poorly understood. I present ongoing research that aims to assess how dyn amics related to plantations (e.g.\, new commodity markets\, terms of empl oyment) have interacted with migration-related fluxes of people\, goods\, and money to influence household decision-making and land cover and contro l. Results draw on ethnographic interviews\, household surveys\, and land use/land cover change mapping in West Kalimantan\, Indonesian Borneo\, adj acent to Malaysian border.\n\nSpeaker: Kim Carlson\, Assistant Professor o f Environmental Studies\, New York University\n\n \n DTSTART:20221028T160000Z DTEND:20221028T170000Z LOCATION:Room 426\, Burnside Hall\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0B9\, 805 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Kim Carlson (New York University) - Oil palm plantations\, labor mi gration\, and land change along the Indonesian-Malaysian Border URL:/geography/channels/event/kim-carlson-new-york-uni versity-oil-palm-plantations-labor-migration-and-land-change-along-340647 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
