  For most of the current literature on knowledge sourcing within economic 
 geography\, these are assumed to be carried from a single unit considered 
 as fixed in space. In a constantly growing number of organizations\, howev
 er\, the internal-external interface is multiplied as firms expand to embe
 d themselves within different sites of knowledge production. This research
  empirically explores how organizations differentiate their technological 
 development activities as a function of their geographical locations withi
 n the US and whether the complexity of their output is enhanced as a resul
