 ccioni will present 'AI and Climate Change: Equating positive impacts with
  negative effects.'\n\nWhile people often split into polarising views on t
 echnology either saving us from climate disaster or contributing to it\, t
 he reality is much more nuanced. In this talk\, I will explore how the dev
 elopment and use of artificial intelligence affects the environment\, from
  my own research about how to calculate the carbon footprint of algorithms
  to projects and initiatives that may provide some hope that AI can be use
 d in the battle against the climate crisis.\n\nDr. Sasha Luccioni is a res
 earcher in ethical and sustainable artificial intelligence at HuggingFace\
 , as well as a Founding Member of Climate Change AI and a Board Member of 
 Women in Machine Learning. Dr. Luccioni's work focuses on having a better 
 understanding of the societal and environmental impacts of AI models\, dat
 asets and systems.\n\nThis event is also part of the 6th Season of Disrupt
 ing Disruptions: the Feminist and Accessible Publishing and Communications
  Technologies Speaker and Workshop Series\, organized by Dr. Alex Ketchum.
