Cumming received her B.A. in Music and Medieval Studies at聽Barnard College \,聽Columbia University聽(1980)\, and her M.A. (1982) and Ph.D (1987) in Mus ic and Medieval Studies at the聽University of California at Berkeley. She t aught for seven years at聽Wellesley College聽before moving to聽黑料不打烊聽in 1992 . In addition to musicology she has played the recorder professionally\, h elped run the summer workshop\, Amherst Early Music\, and conducted the Co llegium at聽Wellesley College.
