 t scale. But the uptake of agricultural innovations among small-scale farm
 ers is often limited in both low- and middle-income countries\, despite cl
 aims to the contrary in the literature on the rates of return to agricultu
 ral research.  This talk will develop a conceptual and practical framework
  on ‘scaling up’ with reference to key innovation domains in agriculture a
 nd food security. Episodes of adoption of innovations will be assessed alo
 ng with the reasons behind ‘dis-adoption’ and the complete failure of some
  innovations to spread.\nThis presentation is part of the Margaret A. Gill
 iam Lecture Series in Food Security\, held under the auspices of the McGil
 l Institute for Global Food Security and the Faculty of Agricultural and E
