These essential mediators of neur omuscular movement appeared more than two billion years ago and through th e central mechanism of gene duplication and loss\, have led to a diverse f amily of modern-day pLGICs.\n\nThe evolution of pLGICs has given rise to a complex population of heteromeric receptors\, particularly in the clade V nematode species\, closely related to the free-living model Caenorhabditi s elegans. Among them\, the levamisole-sensitive acetylcholine receptor (L -AChR) stands out\, composed of five different subunits in C. elegans. The appearance of new subunits of this receptor continues through gene duplic ation. Expansion of the unc-29 gene to four copies in the parasitic nemato de of small ruminants\, Haemonchus contortus\, is proposed as a model of t he process more generally.\n\nEveryone in the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ community is welcome to attend a PhD oral defense. Please join us in celebrating the accomplish ments of our PhD candidates.\n\n \n\n \n DTSTART:20170608T130000Z DTEND:20170608T130000Z LOCATION:P-117\, Parasitology Building\, CA\, QC\, St Anne de Bellevue\, H9 X 3V9\, 21111 Lakeshore Road SUMMARY:PhD Oral Defense: Subunit diversity of the levamisole-sensitive ace tylcholine receptor URL:/macdonald/channels/event/phd-oral-defense-subunit -diversity-levamisole-sensitive-acetylcholine-receptor-268152 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
