 reen Engineering at Yale University\, who is credited with establishing th
 e field of green chemistry\n\nABSTRACT\n\nThe history of the field of gree
 n chemistry is being written everyday in the lab notebooks and the scienti
 fic journals. But the impact of the basic science goes far beyond the basi
 c research to impact the lives and well-being of the living things of the 
 planet. The work of green chemistry will be a significant factor in whethe
 r or not we stay on the unsustainable trajectory that we are on as a civil
 ization. With that in mind\, what becomes the essential elements for the w
 ork of green chemistry. Is it simply to make existing products and process
 es more efficient and less wasteful? If it's something more than that\, th
 en how do we identify the 'True North' and what is the path forward?\n
