This surge in demand has led to more cases of geog raphical origin fraud\, requiring effective tools to verify coffee origins . In a recent study\, Dr. Biniam Kebede and his team applied a multi-omics and machine learning approach to analyze 24 green coffee bean samples (Ar abica\, wet-washed) from 3 continents\, 8 countries\, and 22 regions. Mult i-omics techniques included geochemistry\, MS and NMR-based metabolomics\, and vibrational spectroscopy. Various (non)linear machine learning models were explored. NIR-coupled hyperspectral imaging showed strong potential due to its ability to analyze large volumes of beans for more accurate ori gin traceability.\n\nThe Virtual Seminar Series on Food Authenticity is or ganized by researchers and students at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ and the University of Guelph .\n\nThe event is virtual and will take place over Zoom.\n\nZoom link\n\nA bout the speaker: Dr. Biniam Kebede\n\nDr. Biniam Kebede holds a PhD in Bi oscience Engineering from KU Leuven (Belgium)\, has worked in New Zealand and will be joining the University of Guelph (Canada) as an Assistant Prof essor on December 1\, 2024.\n\nHis active research areas include: (i) unde rstanding process-structure-function relations as a basis for (reverse) en gineering approaches to create safe and healthier food products with excel lent sensory qualities in a sustainable way and (ii) developing innovative \, non-invasive sensors and techniques coupled with machine learning and A I\, for the agri-food industry.\n DTSTART:20241031T190000Z DTEND:20241031T200000Z LOCATION:Zoom SUMMARY:Food Authenticity Seminar Series: Machine learning-driven hyperspec tral imaging for origin traceability of green coffee URL:/macdonald/channels/event/food-authenticity-semina r-series-machine-learning-driven-hyperspectral-imaging-origin-traceability -360143 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
