A straightforward generalization of th is idea to complex vector spaces of higher dimension fails\, as shown by C ornalba and Shiffman in the 1970s. In a recent work\, we showed that a cer tain higher-dimensional generalization is possible\, if one counts zeros c oarsely\, i.e. by ignoring small oscillations. The same philosophy pertain s to a number of other problems in analysis\, such as counting zeros of ha rmonic maps. I will explain the general idea of coarse counting and demons trate its utility with concrete examples. The talk is partially based on a joint work with L. Buhovsky\, I. Polterovich\, L. Polterovich and E. Shel ukhin.\n\nJoin Zoom Meeting\n\nhttps://umontreal.zoom.us/j/89528730384?pwd =IF10Cg8C0YfogaBlL6F1NboPaQvAaV.1\n\n \n\nMeeting ID: 895 2873 0384\n\nPas scode: 077937\n DTSTART:20250131T190000Z DTEND:20250131T201500Z SUMMARY:Vukasin Stojisavljevic (CRM/UdeM - CNRS/Sorbonne) URL:/mathstat/channels/event/vukasin-stojisavljevic-cr mudem-cnrssorbonne-363012 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
