Coffee will be served.\nAbstract\n\nFreshwater ecosystems ar e among the most threatened on Earth facing environmental and anthropogeni c pressures often surpassing their terrestrial counterparts. High-resolut ion temporal data regarding the change of surface water is lacking at a gl obal scale. We created three global surface water extent datasets from the Landsat satellite imagery archives from the mid 80s to present. At finer time scales\, our results capture previously recorded events such as the d rought of 2010 in the Brazilian Amazon and the extent of flooding in 2012. We also show cases where surface water has continued to decrease over tim e (e.g. Madagascar). We discuss implications of our findings in terms of t he imperilment of endemic aquatic fauna and potential mitigation measures. \n\n DTSTART:20161114T203000Z DTEND:20161114T213000Z LOCATION:Room 934\, Burnside Hall\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0B9\, 805 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Seminar: Dr. Margaret Kalacska URL:/meteo/channels/event/seminar-dr-margaret-kalacska -263737 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
