Heather Howes
Course Instructor (Flute; Woodwind Ensembles)

Heather Howes obtained her M.Mus. in Flute Performance from 黑料不打烊 University studying with OSM Principal Timothy Hutchins before furthering her studies with eminent British flutist, conductor and pedagogue Geoffrey Gilbert. Fluently bilingual, Ms. Howes is currently teaching flute and chamber music at Vanier College, 黑料不打烊 University's Schulich School of Music, and Marianopolis College. Previously, she has also taught flute at Montreal's Conservatoire de musique et d鈥檃rt dramatique du 蚕耻茅产别肠 and at Quebec-City's Universit茅 Laval. Ms. Howes takes pride in the accomplishments of her numerous CEGEP, Conservatory and University students who have made careers for themselves in many music fields. She is equally proud of her students who have pursued alternate education and career paths in areas as diverse as Law, Kinesiology, Neuroscience, Engineering, and Veterinary Medicine.
Ms. Howes' orchestral career spans over 40 years as Second flute/Solo piccolo with Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivi猫res (OSTR), as Principal flute with Orchestre symphonique de Longueuil (OSDL) and as an additional musician for concerts and touring throughout North and South America with Orchestre I Musici de Montr茅al under the direction of Maestro Yuli Turovsky O.C., C.Q. As guest soloist, Ms. Howes has appeared with many orchestras including I Musici, Orchestre symphonique de 蚕耻茅产别肠, Orchestre de Radio-Canada, Orchestre de chambre Appassionata, OSTR and OSDL. Her chamber-music activities include numerous performances as a member of Quatuor Linos, Trio St. Louis and the Westwind Quintet as well as through collaborations with some of Montreal鈥檚 finest chamber musicians. Ms. Howes can be heard through many YouTube posts with I Musici and OSDL, CDs with I Musici, OSTR, OSDL and Quatuor Linos, broadcasts on CBC/Radio-Canada and in live solo and chamber-music recitals.
Heather Howes is highly sought after as a clinician and adjudicator across Quebec and internationally as her constructive comments continually inspire generations of young musicians. Ms. Howes is honoured to participate as a jury member for the 2025 Canadian Music Competition National Finals.
