May 16 Budget Town Hall

Dear ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ community members,

In February, we hosted a Town Hall to discuss the major budget challenges facing ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ. After a $45-million correction, we are now projecting a balanced FY2025-26 budget – albeit by a razor-thin margin. We are also encouraged by a Superior Court ruling that has provided some welcome news, but due to international student caps, government tuition clawbacks, provincial grant reductions and the outsized growth of our expenses relative to revenues, large deficits are still projected for subsequent years. Therefore, difficult measures are still needed to secure our finances and protect our academic mission.

May 16 Town Hall

We invite you to learn more about ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s financial situation at a Town Hall from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16. Please join using your ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ credentials.

We encourage you to email your questions to events.oap [at] mcgill.ca (Events Provost) by May 13. You’ll also have an opportunity to ask questions after our presentation, using the Q&A function in Teams.

A challenging period

We would like to take a moment to acknowledge how hard these last few months have been. In addition to painful layoffs, we have lost colleagues through contracts that are not being renewed and retirements from positions that will not be filled. These hard choices are required to help build a sustainable future for our institution. Still, they have real impacts on individuals, their loved ones, and their colleagues. With that in mind, we are especially grateful for your efforts and dedication during this challenging period. Please also remember that if you need support, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Employee & Family Assistance Program is there for you.

Sincerely,

Christopher Manfredi
Provost and Executive Vice-President (Academic)

Fabrice Labeau
Vice-President (Administration & Finance)
