Prof. Lee Jeys is an Orthopaedic surgeon specialising in Orthopaedic Oncology and complex lower limb arthroplasty including periprosthetic joint infection from Birmingham, UK. He is clinical lead of the Oncology unit at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, honorary Professor of Life and Health Sciences at Aston University and president elect of the British Orthopaedic Oncology Society.

May 4, 2023 - Professor Willem-Jan Metsemakers,ÌýChair Department of Trauma Surgery, University Hospital Leuven, Belgium

Willem-Jan Metsemakers is the chair of the department of Trauma Surgery of the University Hospitals Leuven (UZ Leuven). He studied Medicine at the Catholic University Leuven (KU Leuven) where he graduated in 2007 (MD). In 2014, he was accepted into the medical research fellowship program at the AO Research Institute in Davos, Switzerland. During his fellowship, he worked within the Musculoskeletal Infection Group on experimental models of implant-related infection. This preclinical research was part of his PhD, which was complimented by clinical studies that focused on complications after intramedullary nailing. He received his PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the KU Leuven in 2015. He is currently an associate professor at the KU Leuven, where he has multiple educational tasks primarily within the Faculty of Medicine. His current clinical focus is musculoskeletal infection, compromised fracture healing, and limb reconstruction in orthopaedic trauma surgery. Within the UZ Leuven he is head of the Care Program for Musculoskeletal Infections and of the Coordination Group for Bacteriophage Therapy Leuven.

2022ÌýJo Miller ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Orthopaedic Visiting Professor

May 26, 2022 - Dr. Sigurd Berven, Chief of the Spine Service at UC San Francisco

Sigurd Berven, MD, is the chief of the Spine Service at UC San Francisco. He holds a joint appointment in Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurosurgery, and he leads the UCSF Spine Surgical Home Program. Dr. Berven studied Human Biology and Economics at Stanford University. He studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) as a graduate student at Oxford University. He then studied medicine at Harvard Medical School, followed by residency in the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Program. His post-graduate surgical training included a chief residency at the Boston Children’s Hospital, and SpineÌýFellowship at UC San Francisco where he has been on the faculty since August, 2000. Dr. Berven is the Professor in Residence at UC San Francisco, and he serves as the Chief of the Spine Service and Director of the Spine Surgical Home Program and the Interdisciplinary Spine Service. His clinical interests include complex spinal deformity in the adult and pediatric patient. His research interests include studies on the value of interventions including non-operative management, operative strategies and new technologies. His research has been funded by the NIH, NIAMS, NSF, NASA, CDMI, NASS, SRS, OREF, and AO Spine.

May 20, 2021 - Dr. Mohit Bhandari, Professor and Chair, Department of Surgery, McMaster University

Dr. Bhandari currently serves as the Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery at McMaster University representing over 130 full time surgeons, 200 part time faculty, and 350 surgical trainees across 11 surgical specialties. He holds the distinction of University Scholar, the John A. Bauer Chair in Surgery, and a Senier Tier I Canada Research Chair. He received his Masters Degree in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics from McMaster University and his PhD Degree from Goteborg University (Sweden). He is a member of the Order of Ontario. He was recently inducted as a member of the Order of Canada for his research and advocacy both nationally and abroad.

May 2nd, 2019 - Dr. Robert McCormack, Professor, Department of Orthopaedics and Associate Head Department of Orthopaedics, University of British ColumbiaÌý

Dr. McCormack is a Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of British Columbia. His clinical practice focuses on knee and shoulder injuries with subspecialty interest, and research activities, in the area of articular cartilage regeneration and ligament reconstruction. He is active in sports medicine and cares for athletes at the university, national and professional levels. This includes the varsity athletes at three universities (in both U Sports and the physician for the BC Lions (CFL), is the Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC (MLS) and works as a consultant for the NHL/NHLPA. He is a physician for several national teams, in both summer and winter sports and has been part of the medical team at numerous international multi-sport events (including ten Olympic Games). He has been the head physician for the Canadian Olympic team since 2004, most recently was the Chief Medical Officer at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Korea. Between Games, he is the Medical Director of the Canadian Olympic Committee and on the PASO medical commission for the Pan Am Games. In his research role, Dr McCormack is the Director of the Simon Fraser Orthopaedic Research Foundation, which concentrates on prospective randomized trials in orthopaedics. He was also one of the founders of the COTS and JOINTS groups for multicenter Canadian research.Ìý

2018 Eugene Rogala Visiting Professor in Pediatric Orthopaedic SurgeryÌý

November 8th, 2019 - Dr. Michelle James, MD, Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery, UC Davis School of Medecine, Sacramento, CA

Dr. James obtained her medical degree from University of California in 1985. She completed her orthopaedic residnecy at the University of California, San Francisco and her Fellowship in Hand and Microsurgery at the Indianapolis Hand Center. Dr. James is currently Chief of the Division of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery, University of California, Davis School of Medicine, Sacramento, CA. She is Chief of Staff, Orthopedic Surgery, Shriners Hospital for Children Northern California. Dr. James is a model pediatric orthopaedic surgeon who is appreciated not only by her patients, nut also her colleagues and residents. As an expert pediatric orthopaedic upper extremity specialist, she has presented numerous lectures as a visiting professor and invited guest speaker. She has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters and has edited7 books.ÌýDr. James has sat on several Editorial and Advisory Boards and is presently Deputy Editor of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.Ìý In 2011, she obtained the Golden Apple Award, Health Volunteers Overseas for extraordinary contributions in support of educational activities at HVO training sites.Ìý

May 11, 2017 – Dr. Michael Baumgaetner, Professor of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, Yale Medical Group – Jo Miller ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Orthopaedic Visiting Professor

Dr. Michael R. Baumgaertner is an Orthopaedic Traumatologist who is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery & Rehabilitation at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. He serves as Chief of the Orthopaedic Trauma Service at Yale - New Haven Hospital, a Level One Trauma Center serving the state of Connecticut. He authored numerous original articles and chapters in orthopaedic textbooks. Dr. Baumgaertner served as President of AO North America for four years, and now Chairs the AONA Board of Directors. Soon after arriving in Montreal, Dr. Baumgaertner joined residents and staff on a friendly Bike Ride on the Lachine canal (Picture 1), followed by dinner with the residents. On the following day, Dr. Baumgaertner opened the morning session with a talk entitled "Pertrochanteric Femur Fractures-Lessons Learned." This was followed by a case presentation, and the Resident Research Paper Competition which were 14 research presentations. A combination of clinical, education and basic science presentations well represented the range of research in the department highlighting the winner of the research prizes. The day concluded with the Annual Department Dinner at the St-James Club. The event continued for the second day at the Jewish General Hospital where Dr. Baumgaertner involved more case discussions and concluded the event with a talked entitled "Nonunions: Basic Principles and Common Sense."Ìý The entire department enjoyed having Dr. Baumgaertner at our institution.
