Moving from planning to action: Welcome to the Fall Semester

Read VP-Dean Lesley Fellows’ Fall Semester welcome message, which also launches the new FMHS Strategic Plan.

To all members of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences,

I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy a restful and restorative summer. As we return to our two campuses and many affiliated sites across the province to begin a new academic year, I want to take a moment to reflect on where we’ve been, and where we’re headed.

The past year has been marked by volatility and change within our university and health care system, as well as across the globe. Through it all, our Faculty has remained focused on its mission: to serve society by educating future health professionals and scientists, advancing research, and improving care. That mission has never been more important.

Together for Better Health: The Faculty’s new Strategic Plan

After extensive consultation and development, our newÌýStrategic PlanÌýfor the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is now officially launched. If you haven’t yet had a chance to review the plan, I encourage you to take some time to explore and familiarize yourself with it. Specific goals and initiatives to advance these strategic priorities over the coming year are underway. These include new tools and resources to support our educators and supervisors, starting with a set ofÌýclinical supervision modulesÌýfor all our health professions faculty, developed by our refocused Faculty Enrichment and Development (FacED) team. These modules are short, practical, accredited, and designed for both new and experienced clinical supervisors, across our affiliated healthcare network. Watch for more details in the coming weeks. Similar faculty development for graduate supervisors is also in development and will follow soon after.

These efforts reflect our commitment to professionalism, collaboration, and rigour. Whether in the classroom, the clinic, or the lab, our faculty, staff, and learners can be found at a growing number of sites and centres across Quebec, united by a shared purpose, working together for better health.

Over its 200+ year history, this Faculty has adapted to meet emerging needs and changing circumstances. What has always carried us through is the creativity and dedication of our people. Every day I am impressed by how our faculty, staff, and learners continue to step up, bringing fresh ideas and energy to the work we do.

Thank you for your continued dedication to our mission. I wish you all a wonderful start to the new school year.

Best regards,

Ìý

Lesley Fellows, MDCM, DPhil
Vice-President (Health Affairs)
Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
