Stay safe everyone!\n\n\nA free public lecture at 7pm sha rp on Thursday March 19th at the Frank Dawson Adams Auditorium (3450 rue U niversity) by ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Physics Graduate Student Lia Formenti.\n\nYou may hav e heard of CERN\, home of the world’s largest particle collider\, in the n ews. If not\, you’ll learn about it here! Physicists around the world use the collider at CERN to smash together larger particles to unleash their i nnards. The sheer size of the collider is impressive: it’s the largest man -made machine ever built. Why on Earth do physicists need such a massive m achine? This talk will cover how we study the smallest building blocks of matter using the collider and the famous ATLAS experiment (a mammoth in it s own right). There will be an accessible introduction to particle physics \, how we detect particles too small to see\, and why we collide particles . We’ll lead up to talking about how Canada is helping to build the future of particle physics at the ATLAS experiment at CERN. At the end of the ta lk\, we hope you’ll have more wonder about what the world around us is mad e of\; more incredulity at the awesome machines that humanity has built\; and feel proud that Canada is involved.\n\nWe hope to see you there!\n DTSTART:20200319T230000Z DTEND:20200320T000000Z LOCATION:Frank Dawson Adams Auditorium\, Adams Building\, CA\, QC\, Montrea l\, H3A 0E8\, 3450 rue University SUMMARY:**CANCELLED** Public AstroPhysics Night: Take it to the Limit: Mamm oth Machines and the Tiniest Particles URL:/science/channels/event/cancelled-public-astrophys ics-night-take-it-limit-mammoth-machines-and-tiniest-particles-320990 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
