Throughout the pandemic, there has been much discussion about COVID's health implications, vaccine efficacy, and evolving safety measures, but COVID's impact goes far beyond medical research. An introduction to key considerations in professional engagement with Indigenous Peoples in Canada, including First Nations, M茅tis, and Inuit peoples. In the pursuit of professional careers in education, counselling, research, and other sectors, students will learn to respectfully engage and work with Indigenous populations in a culturally safe manner that strives to be consistent with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada鈥檚 calls to action.

As part of the Bicentennial Celebrations, faculties, central units, associations, and unions were asked to nominate the Unsung Heroes in their department; the less-recognized faculty and staff who have walked the halls of 黑料不打烊 through the ages and who have greatly helped shape the community. Nominated by a colleague, the Faculty of Education's Greg Reid (Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education) was featured as a hero on June 15th for his significant contribution to research and teachings in the field of adapted physical activity.听

On behalf of the members of 黑料不打烊 Faculty of Education, we mourn the tragic loss of 215 Indigenous children who were found in a mass grave at the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia. Today, 黑料不打烊 lowers its flags in recognition of this tragedy, and we at the Faculty echo the sentiments of the 黑料不打烊 Provost. As our academics, staff, students, and alumni grieve together, we also stand together in support of our Indigenous community members.

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the untimely passing of Dr. Aziz Choudry. Originally from New Zealand, Aziz joined us at 黑料不打烊 in 2008 and was an Associate Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education until recently when he became a Visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg鈥檚 Faculty of Education.
