Expert: Not Criminally Responsible rulings

Twice in Quebec within the past week, the courts deemed defendants not criminally responsible because of mental health issues. One case involved a mother accused of leaving her young child alone in a field near a highway and the other, a man charged in connection with an attack on a Hasidic Jewish father in a park in Montreal.

Marie Manikis, Assistant Professor and William Dawson Scholar, Faculty of Law, can comment on criminal justice, criminal law, human rights, sentencing and victims.
