In this keynote presentation, Dr. Chika Stacy Oriuwa, a Psychiatry resident at the University of Toronto, poet, author, and public speaker, explores the transformative power of curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, compassion, and authenticity in unlocking human potential and fostering wellness. Drawing on cutting-edge neuroscience and real-life experiences鈥攆rom guiding psychiatric patients in crisis to coaching novice poets into champions 鈥 this talk reveals how these interconnected forces drive innovation, ingenuity, and well-being. With actionable insights, compelling stories, and practical strategies, you鈥檒l discover how fostering whole-brain thinking and authentic leadership can create environments of trust, collaboration, and resilience, promoting personal and collective wellness in both life and work.

About the speaker:
Dr. Chika Stacy Oriuwa is an accomplished physician, spoken word poet, and thought leader on authentic leadership and connection.
Her career is a testament to her insatiable curiosity about the human experience and the profound connections that define it. She is currently a resident doctor in psychiatry at the University of Toronto where she earned her medical degree and became the first Black woman named sole valedictorian of the department.
Dr. Chika also has a master鈥檚 degree in Health Systems Leadership and Innovation and has served on multiple boards informing their efforts in advancing equity, leading authentically, and prioritizing workplace wellness.
In addition, Dr. Chika is a nationally ranked poet and a vocal advocate for improving disparities in health care, who has been named one of TIME magazine鈥檚 鈥淣ext Generational Leaders鈥 and 惭补肠濒别补苍鈥檚 Power 50. She was also honoured in Mattel鈥檚 #ThankYouHeroes campaign with a one-of-a-kind Barbie doll made in her image to commemorate her contributions as a frontline healthcare worker. In October 2024, Dr. Chika released her memoir, Unlike the Rest: A Doctor鈥檚 Story.
